Have no bills in your name, no permanent address that you are the renter/leasee/owner of... try to move in with someone or a few people who are already in a lease and just be a 3rd roommate or something... DEF. dont stay at home with parents, its too risky....
just lay low, keep watchful eye for cops, MPs etc on the streets, or around your house.
just minimize the paper trail you leave pretty much (bills, credit cards etc.. dont use them if possible)
Move to a rural area, OR to a major city.. dont hide in small town or middle sized city.. blend in.
Stupid war, I dont blame you... OH, and if you are thinking of leaving where you are now, Up and Move to The northeast, or california.

Yeah good luck. Once you are in desertion status, it is not the MPs you have to worry about. A federal arrest warrant is filed and you can be arrested from any agency and returned to the base which filed your status. So u can be arrested anytime.

So in the long run better to come into the light get it over with so you can go back to protesting the war.

You are a coward, Not for protesting the war if you were doing that I would have some respect for you. What kind of message are you able to get out by hidding. If you really were protesting you would refuse to go in plain sight that is the only way your protest can get attention.

Your a disgrace to this country. You sign up for the military, and swore an oath, and take your pay checks which is tax payer money. Then when your called to fight you want to "protest"! This is a war, stand up and fight you coward. Take some pride in yourself and for what you signed up for.
You let all of the men and women that you trained with to go fight, and you run away. Is that the way you support what used to be your fellow soldiers?
I have come across people like you. When a police officer runs you your AWOL status will come up, you will be arrested, and the military police will come pick you up from county jail.
Maybe you shouldn't have posted that on here, but I totally agree with you. The United States will not win the war, and they shouldn't continue risking other people's lives for it. You're doing a good job protesting it, or why don't you just leave them be and they can find out the hard way that it was a stupid thing to get into in the first place? I see America falling in the food chain..

They will turn your case over to "trackers" who's job it is to find deserters. These trackers will contact your family, any known friends etc... to find you.
You're in a tough situation because there aren't that many deserters anymore. Good news this means less trackers. Bad news is that you will be wanted the rest of your life.
Your information will be turned over to the Feds (Marshals) and your picture posted in every post office. You will never be able to use your social security number because it will be tracked. If you are caught you can plan on doing a minimum of 25 years in Leavenworth.
Depending on how long you have been gone, it may be the best thing to turn yourself in. Otherwise you will have to be very careful the rest of your life. They will never stop hunting you.

That being said, I did fight to allow people like you the freedom to make a statement in this country how you see fit.
You can have NO contact with and authorities (police, security checks at Airports, school applications, etc.) Anyone or anything that would put your name into a computer will catch you. No credit cards, or using your real name anywhere for anything. Cash only, fake name, address, etc. until you get caught or give up. First fingerprint or computer check will catch you!
Though I am angry with your decision to go AWOL, I also have to respect your right to protest.

While you are at it, be honest with those who help you and let them know that they are subjecting themselves to five years (5) in Federal Prison and/or a quarter million dollar ($250,000) fine if they help you
Hiding as a form of protest is not very convincing. If you want to protest, you have to do it where you are seen. As it is, if you get a speeding ticket your hiding days will be over.
Posting things on the internet isn't a good start, if you have to post on the internet put in as little personal info as possible, don't use credit cards, burn your paper trails (I say burn instead of shred because even though it would a tedious task they could piece together the tiny bits of paper) don't drive a car because cops are probably on the look out for your car and license plate, if you have to move about in the open do it at night in case they got satellites looking for you (I highly doubt they are using satellites unless your really really really wanted)
Ok, I can't say I'm going to agree with desertion, but I agree that this war is stupid. They are going to hunt you down and your crime is punishable by death. Maybe you should get a JAG lawyer and turn yourself in. Deserting isn't going to help you in your protest...
You need to become friends with some powerful politicians.

In order to stay hidden, you're going to have to keep a very low profile. You probably need to go to Canada, and stay there. If you need help in defending yourself against the charge of desertion, you better have someone from your family contact the consulate at the US Embassy, probably the embassy to the United Nations, or the one to Canada.
