Why do people want to cut funding to the military?

I understand billions of dollars go to the military but the one thing that government should do is have a STRONG military. It seems there are some, democrats, who want to cut funding whether we are at war or not. Do we really want a weak military? Why do people want to cut funding to the military?People want to cut defense spending, I think, because they have no concept of what the Federal Budget actually looks like. The 2007 budget is slated to spend about 17% on defense, while spending about 58% on entitlements and about 9% on interest on the debt. We could cut military spending all day and it would hardly dent the budget. We need to cut spending on entitlements (medicare, social security, medicaid, welfare) to get the budget and spending under control.

If you look at US military spending as a percentage of GDP, it is just about at an all-time recent low at 3.7% in 2003. This is very low. The USSR spent between 15% - 17% of it's GDP on the military in the mid 80's.Why do people want to cut funding to the military? We spend more on our military than all the other countries combined. I don't think cutting some funding will hurt us. Sure it's important to remain strong but it's good to diversify expenses as there are other priorities worth investing in.Why do people want to cut funding to the military? We do NOT spend more on our military than all other countries ocmbined, total bull pucky. We need the RIGHT mix of people in the Armed Forces and spend the right money on it. We need to reprioritize all of our priorities, and make it in line with what America can afford. Right now the current administration wants military retirees to pay over 1,000 dollars for the right to use their healthcare beneift they earned while fighting for their country, all to save a $$$$$s. How many of them are there? How much is really saved?

Making retirement from the military unattractive will reduce the Veteran forces, or NCOs and Field Grade officers in droves! Then we will have a BIGGER problem. Why do people want to cut funding to the military?
Since the Vietnam War era, the U.S. expenditures on the military have skyrocketed, although the actual numbers of active duty forces have decreased. The current cost-based method of military funding is a leading reason for this problem, since it results in mismanagement and in some cases out-and-out fraud in the military supply chain. So some reform efforts are in order.
