What is a strong lightweight material that would be good for military grade body armor?

I want to design a military style bullet proof vest and I have a good design but need a few materials to tests, any suggestions? What is a strong lightweight material that would be good for military grade body armor?Probably a boron carbide or silicon carbide ceramic baked over a kevlar inter-liner. US military currently uses the ceramic insert, or SAPI (small arms protective insert) as its primary means of halting the puncture function of high-speed projectiles (bullets) to vital areas, while relying on kevlar to slow the penetration of slower shrapnel materials to non-vital areas by hampering the penetration of non-linear non-symetric projectiles through successive disruption of momentum and inertia the subsequent layering. The ceramic plate provides superior protection to high-speed impact, but is successively weakened to consecutive impacts due to its frigid-to-non-existant malleability. A kevlar-meshed interlayer would greatly improve the resilience of the ceramic plate. This, however has yet to be developed, as a means to cure the ceramics while maintaining the tensile integrity of the kevlar within the plate has not yet been developed. Could a production method be developed though, this would probably be the most effective composite.

(However, if this question is in reference to a home experiment or school project, I would suggest leather, ballistic nylon, shorn carpet, linoleum, 1" ply rubber, etc. And only under parental supervision.)What is a strong lightweight material that would be good for military grade body armor?
Buckminster fullerines, if you can get your hands on them. Woven nanotubes would be good as well. What is a strong lightweight material that would be good for military grade body armor?I was going to say silk, but upon further investigation I found that modern munitions are simply too fast and powerful..What is a strong lightweight material that would be good for military grade body armor?
illegal to let you know. kevlar is found on many tires tho. What is a strong lightweight material that would be good for military grade body armor?I wouldn't feel safe wearing body armor made from a guy that had to ask people on Yahoo Answers for help
