At the end of the day, the most senior officer in the armed forces gets what he's given and does as he's told. Just think about this....Everybody here is tired of how the US is being run. Well we have a election (something you have said you are not capable of doing, or was it competent) coming up in November of 2012 and the party out of power now may well be the party in power after this election. If this happens...imagine all the new toys the Republicans will want to give to the military in Taiwan! The US has a couple of operational anti-missile systems that needs to be tested under operating conditions, these would make swell gifts to the military forces in Taiwan. One of these systems has even been tested against ballistic missiles. The other is a state of the arts laser system. The nice thing about these are the CCP has not been able to steal this technology and so they have no counter measures for these systems. Then there is the new aircraft the military has wanted the party in power to sell them but has been refused. Guess what! The Republicans would love to sell some of these so they could replace them with our next generation fighters. This looks like a win win situation for the Taiwan military and the US military. Of course with the CCP using technology it stole many years ago they will be left holding the old out of date goods, but somebody has to use this old stuff. If the CCP can get one of the nations they are talking to about engines to sell them a few they may be able to get the first generation fighter they have in the air. But how would a first generation stealth fighter compare with a fifth generation fighter? When the CCP fighter technology came from the same powers that now have the fifth generation fighter. It appears the CCP may only have a bunch of trash in the near future.Why do Taiwanese people allow their military to have so many unnecessary weapons?The military in Taiwan is there to protect them from the overzealous American Zombies that keep time-warping out of old movies, such as "Beloved" starring Oprah.

Taiwan has no unnecessary weapons all Military weapons used by the ROC is in defense of the people of the ROC.

Because China has so many unnecessary missile bases across its South East coast. Taiwan only has its weapons for defensive uses.
