What are my military options due to relocating?

I am in the Army National Guard and recently got married to a woman in China and was planning on relocating there. However upon my return I found out that the unit I was assigned to has been put on alert and will be activated to go to Afghanistan next July. Can you take a leave of absence from the military or do I need to ask for a discharge of some kind? I am not sure of the best routes to take in this scenario so that it is a win/win for both parties involved. What are my military options due to relocating?hmmm.. so you want to relocate to China to be with your new wife but because your units been activated, but you don't want to go..were you there when you signed that contract and swore in??? you might want to have a flashback right about now...What are my military options due to relocating?I was only in the active duty Army but it seems to me like you should fulfill your obligation and go to Afghanistan. She can come to the U.S. and get a green card, if you want her to be here. I'm not sure why you thought you could relocate to China before your enlistment was up in the Army. Then again, you're in the Reserves which are a lot less strict so you should just ask your C.O. or 1SG and see what they have to say. If you're honest with them, they will help you out. What are my military options due to relocating? Good Question! Monsterr... seems to know what he's talking about, naked needs to learn some tact--they don't teach you that in the military, unfortunitly. You will probably need to fullfill your obligation with the Army, but call your Human Resources Department, they will know more that anyone what the various policies are. Hope this helps, GI
