How competitive is it to be accepted into one of the military service academy's summer programs?

I am a sophomore now, but I have my heart set on going into the military. I've tried to gather as much information as I can on the summer programs, but unfortunately I'm not finding anything. I understand that the summer program application process is based on academics, but I was wondering if I have to be in the top 5th percent of my class or anything. I'm most interested in the Summer Leaders Seminar at West Point, but I would love any information on what the other academies are doing. Thanks.How competitive is it to be accepted into one of the military service academy's summer programs?Usma SLS only has 1,000 places and the most applications. Usafa has 1125 places. Usna has 2250 places. I think you can figure out which is the most competitive. Over 50% of those who attend Usma and Usafa Summer Seminar are offered appointments. The application is not only based on academics, and there is not a top 5% requirement. The academies are looking for well rounded individuals. Listen to what Colonel Batchelder states regarding selection at West Point SLS on the video: Top 10-15% Class Rank, upper 600 Sat Scores or upper 20/lower 30 ACT scores, several extracurricular activities, several athletic letters.

Usma SLS:

From Usna website:

# Superior high school performance to include: GPA, class standing, and/or strong PSAT, SAT, or ACT results;

# Demonstrated achievement in athletics and extracurricular activities, especially demonstrating leadership potential in these areas;

# Physically fit and in good health with normal vision (20/40 or correctable to 20/20);

# Positive attitude, self-disciplined, and of good moral character.

In particular they are looking for pre-candidates likely to qualify for an LOA(letter of assurance)....

....as well as other pre-candidates they desire to recruit to the academy for athletic or other recruiting goals.

[Note: Above links are with regard to Usna but the selection procedures are nearly identical at Usma and Usafa with the proviso that they are far more selective than Usna due to the limited number of spaces. ]

Usafa:

Selections:

Students are evaluated and selected on a "whole person concept;" academics, athletics, leadership experience and extra-curricular activities.

Good Luck!How competitive is it to be accepted into one of the military service academy's summer programs?It is very very difficult to be accepted into one of them.How competitive is it to be accepted into one of the military service academy's summer programs?The programs are competitive but you do not have to be in the top 5th percentile of your class. At least half of the applicants to the summer programs will receive appointments to a Service Academy so the average statistics of those accepted into the summer program will be similar to those accepted into the Academy itself. USAFA has a program called the Summer Scientific Seminar for which it suggests a minimum PSAT score of 52 in verbal and math (SAT 520 in each) or an ACT score of 23 in each area. I've also put the Navy's Summer Seminar webpage in the sources. It is not unusual for someone to go to several of the summer programs in the same summer to get a feel for each Academy.
