Could the US economy be improved by repealing the ban on Japan having a military, and equip them?

The way I see it, Japan is a good, sovereign, free and capitalist nation which is not a threat to anyone, if anything communist China, North Korea and Vietnam could be a threat to the one strong capitalist nation in asia. We could repeal the world war two military ban on the nation, and work to equip them, and that would allow for a strong income for the federal government which could go to reducing the deficit, investing in green jobs, education, etc, and could even produce some immeidiate temporary jobs thru non war timw military production. Could this work?Could the US economy be improved by repealing the ban on Japan having a military, and equip them?I'm not sure what you're proposing, but if you are saying that the United States should lift the military ban, but impose a policy that Japan may only purchase weaponry from American manufacturers, then I do not believe that is a good idea.

When you place a gun in a man's hands, you no longer control that man.

I believe that yes, the US stands to profit from selling weapons to Japan, but I also believe that the cost of losing 100% control over Japan is a risk not worth taking.

We need Japan to exert American influence in the region. We want the enemy to know that we bring all their countries to its knees by shutting down sea-lanes from ships that set sail from Japan.Could the US economy be improved by repealing the ban on Japan having a military, and equip them?
We will always need a good military. But we have to stop thinking the solution to our economic problems is military production. The money made from this is pale compared to all other forms of income.Could the US economy be improved by repealing the ban on Japan having a military, and equip them? What benefit would we have on letting Japan have a military? I'd support removing the American bases in there, since we have no business meddling in other nations.Could the US economy be improved by repealing the ban on Japan having a military, and equip them?
It had an astounding affect on the economy last time Japan had a military. I vote to repeat history...Could the US economy be improved by repealing the ban on Japan having a military, and equip them?No that won't help us. Since the Japan's economy is suffering just as much, or more than ours. I'm sure that building up their military is the last thing on the Japanese governments mind.Could the US economy be improved by repealing the ban on Japan having a military, and equip them?
The US military budget is stimulative to the US economy.
Japan building up a military could indirectly benefit our economy, but would most directly enhance the Japanese economy. People often say that it was FDR's policies that pulled the U.S. out of the Great Depression, but the major reason for the U.S. recovery was the massive industry that came as a result of our entry into WWII. Now, such a buildup could help to economically improve Japan and that might allow more investment which could boost the U.S. economy as well.

To clarify on a misconception that seems to be held in the comments here: The U.S. has no authority over Japan to prevent them from having a military. Following WWII we dictated a constitution to them which included a provision that they would have no military, but today it is entirely up to Japan as to whether or not they want to have a military. They have every right to change their constitution if they saw fit to do so. It is a sore subject in Japan and many Japanese citizens do not want a military and cite their country's past in WWII. There is often uproar when topics concerning military power arise, but it is my understanding that public opinion is not clear cut on this issue. There are many foreign policy analysts that share the asker's sentiment and criticize the U .S. for not encouraging Japan to become a world power. There is about as much fear of Japan trying to make a military move as there is about Germany today...none. I think the truth is that a strong Japan would give us an ally in a region that could help to keep North Korea in check and provide a balance against the Chinese. It would also allow us to free up troops stationed in Japan and deploy them to other areas.

I think your idea has some merit and some definite pluses with regards to national security. While I think the establishment of a Japanese military would aid the U.S. economy, I do not think it would be a massive benefit.
