Can I become a military pilot without previous flight experience?

I would like to become a military pilot. I'm already aware of the 4-year degree prerequisite which I'll complete next spring. I want to know if I would have a chance if I have never flown an aircraft before. Can I become a military pilot without previous flight experience?Yes. The military actually prefers people without flight experience. In that manner, they don't have to overcome the bad habits you learned from a civilian instructor.

Semper Fi,

ZCan I become a military pilot without previous flight experience?Hello "you got this"

Your chances are nil.

Why were you not in a college that has Air Force or Navy ROTC?

You needed to be enrolled in 4 years of ROTC and them - maybe - you would have a chance to become a pilot.

Nobody needs previous pilot - flight experience. They NEED to be able to be selected FOR military pilot training.

And, only commissioned officers are able to be chosen to fly and airplane for the military.

You have to be commissioned. And, just graduating in 2012 with a college degree will not automatically get you commissioned.

So, you need to do this:

A. Apply to the Air Force for Officer Training School (OTS) [Very few quotas each year - and you might have to wait 2 or more years to be accepted];

B. Apply to the Navy for Naval Officer Candidate School (OCS). Again, everyone who applies is not always accepted.

C. Apply to the Army for their Helicopter OCS school.

You would have had a much better opportunity if you had been in 4 years of ROTC in college. However, don't give up hope.

Did you know it is much better to fly for the military if you NEVER did civilian flying? Why? Because military flying rules are different. And, you would have to be "untaught" civilian rules of aviation to be retrained for military rules of engagement and flight safety.

Best wishes,

Larry Smith

Senior Master Sergeant, USAF (Ret.)

First SergeantCan I become a military pilot without previous flight experience? No if that were the case, we wouldn't have a great deal of pilots in the military. You are given intense training...Can I become a military pilot without previous flight experience?
Very few, if any, pilots in the military have previous flight experience.

What about all the military ballots that have not been counted?

I heard that the GOP got a court date, Nov.10th, so as to have the military ballots counted. The judge ordered them to be preserved because they were mailed to the soldiers late and recieved late. This should be reason enough to allow them to be counted.

I heard that this court order means today's election result will not be honored until this order is decided.

My question is...

What if they are counted and the votes are in McCain's favor? How will it affect the election results?

What about all the military ballots that have not been counted? The military ballots won't mean much. there's less than a million people serving the military, less than 1% of the american population. And these votes aren't localized, but spread evenly across the country. due to this spread, and the amount of people in the military, even if everyone voted McCain, it wouldn't be enough to change electoral votes, and wouldn't have much of an impact on the popular vote.

Oh, and josh, military votes are counted as absentee ballots. I'm stationed in NC, and sent my absentee to GA a couple of weeks prior. And you're right, the military is overly republican. In my shop, we did a mock vote just to see, and McCain won 43 to 1.What about all the military ballots that have not been counted?
They won'tWhat about all the military ballots that have not been counted? Not nearly enough to make one bit of a difference
At this point I think all of those military ballots would have to be for McCain... And even then I don't think he has a chance. Obama is winning big time. What about all the military ballots that have not been counted?First of all, there arent enough votes there that if they all went McCain it would make any difference. Next, the military is largely made up of young blacks and latinos. They are voting for Obama by and large. So it would probably hurt McCain more than helpWhat about all the military ballots that have not been counted?
You know how the Democrats ***** and moan about Bush cheating and stealing the election? I'd like to put it out there, thats its proven the troops support McCain, and its probably not a coincidence that they are not wanting to count their votes. I wonder how many hate mails I will get for saying that.
Obama's lead will be insurmountable and unaffected by a few thousand votes. Not as many military actually vote as people like to think they do.What about all the military ballots that have not been counted?
It is mathematically impossible for them to affect the election results.
I dont know how the military votes are counted....

Oh: For all the morons who believe that the military is split evenly between democrats and republicans or is more democratic...well, you are sadly misinformed. The USA military is HEAVILY republican and conservative.

http://www.militarytimes.com/static/proj鈥?/a>

The same way they affected the Bush elections. If they put McCain ahead, then he wins. But from the looks of it, they won't matter, and should they tip the balance, the Dems will no doubt challenge, and it'll be the same song and shuffle we had the last two times they lost. Apparently, they don't believe they can lose, or at least shouldn't. How arrogant and spoiled!

And, as we have seen, they never admit that cheating had anything to do with it, so long as they won. And if they didn't, they'll scream disenfranchisement. Bull, considering all the wetbacks who voted in California. No need to ask since when we allow illegals to vote for our President. That would be since they voted Democratic. If they had voted for McCain, you can bet they'd be up in arms over it.

What I want to know is if anyone plans to verify his qualifications--well, we know what those are--the infamous birth certificate. He ought not to be inaugurated, or even called, until he can prove that he is a natural born citizen. But I'd bet he plans to just slide by, secure in the knowledge that nobody will take responsibility for demanding that check. And the ones who should have, are just as corrupt and crooked as he.

What we ought to do is write our Congressmen, and State Attorney Generals, and everyone we can think of, and demand that this be cleared before they even call the race. We are the American people, and as the governed, we have every right to demand that he prove his right to take up the position. You should do so, and get everyone you know to do so, as well.

What is a strong lightweight material that would be good for military grade body armor?

I want to design a military style bullet proof vest and I have a good design but need a few materials to tests, any suggestions? What is a strong lightweight material that would be good for military grade body armor?Probably a boron carbide or silicon carbide ceramic baked over a kevlar inter-liner. US military currently uses the ceramic insert, or SAPI (small arms protective insert) as its primary means of halting the puncture function of high-speed projectiles (bullets) to vital areas, while relying on kevlar to slow the penetration of slower shrapnel materials to non-vital areas by hampering the penetration of non-linear non-symetric projectiles through successive disruption of momentum and inertia the subsequent layering. The ceramic plate provides superior protection to high-speed impact, but is successively weakened to consecutive impacts due to its frigid-to-non-existant malleability. A kevlar-meshed interlayer would greatly improve the resilience of the ceramic plate. This, however has yet to be developed, as a means to cure the ceramics while maintaining the tensile integrity of the kevlar within the plate has not yet been developed. Could a production method be developed though, this would probably be the most effective composite.

(However, if this question is in reference to a home experiment or school project, I would suggest leather, ballistic nylon, shorn carpet, linoleum, 1" ply rubber, etc. And only under parental supervision.)What is a strong lightweight material that would be good for military grade body armor?
Buckminster fullerines, if you can get your hands on them. Woven nanotubes would be good as well. What is a strong lightweight material that would be good for military grade body armor?I was going to say silk, but upon further investigation I found that modern munitions are simply too fast and powerful..What is a strong lightweight material that would be good for military grade body armor?
illegal to let you know. kevlar is found on many tires tho. What is a strong lightweight material that would be good for military grade body armor?I wouldn't feel safe wearing body armor made from a guy that had to ask people on Yahoo Answers for help

What Questions need i ask myself when choosing a branch of military service?

So right now i feel as if my life has yet again turned to utter ****.

I have to leave this place if i want any chance of being happy and enjoying my youth before it is too late. That is one thing i have no trouble working for.

I need to know what i should know to make an informed decision on military service. What Questions need i ask myself when choosing a branch of military service?I'm an old fart (prior military, too), and I have to say these are all good answers.

Think about why the military? Why not college in another city/state/country?

You say you feel that your life has yet again turned to utter do-do. Can you step back from the situation and see if maybe you can salvage it, or perhaps you're too close to it, and can't be objective? If running away from the current situation is the only motivator for joining the military, then go into the military with both eyes open, or you might end up trading one set of problems for another.

In any case, the process for enlistment, regardless of the branch, is going to take awhile. You have to take the ASVAB (the better you do in this, the more choices you have for specialties), pass a medical exam, and then you have to wait for a slot in basic training to become available. This all takes time.

Look at the websites for the different branches (I would have loved to have such a resource back in the 70s). Learn about the branch you are interested in. Is there something in a particular service that appeals to you, like say, submarines in the Navy, tanks in the Army or Marines, a boom operator (those guys that refuel planes in flight) in the Air Force?

When you've done your homework, contact a recruiter for the branch. Sure he or she can tell you what they have to offer, but if you go in with a little knowledge about the service you choose, you can ask better questions.

Good luck to you. What Questions need i ask myself when choosing a branch of military service?
First of all, take your time. This needs to be a thoughtful decision. Are you prepared to go to war? The greatest liklihood of dealing with that prospect would be in the Army or Marines, though all the Armed Forces are participating. I suggest you get printed information from all the branches of the Armed Forces and compare them. Talk to people who are serving or have served in the past. Ask around. You need to have some long conversations with people who have lived the life. Good luck with your decision. What Questions need i ask myself when choosing a branch of military service?" do i wanna get shot at or do i wanna not get shot at." lol. no but in all seriousness i think it is really up to your physical and mental capabilities and what do you want to do after the military. you dont devulge much about yourself in your question but i would deffinately recomend going to college and maybe do some ROTC. pays for college and you end up on the higher side of the army. not to put down enlisted men and woman of course. But as far as your question goes, Be a medic if your going to enlist it will help you in the future.
You need to be asking yourself what you want to do with your life and what career you would like.

Sometimes the Armed Forces aren't the right way "out".

This is a big decision, so think it over.

Good luck in whatever you do.What Questions need i ask myself when choosing a branch of military service? What kind of job do you want to do? Which military branch do you think you can handle? My husband is in the United States Army Reserves and he likes the army. He just doesn't like it when he gets deployed. What Questions need i ask myself when choosing a branch of military service?

  • How can I find military people who have to sell their homes because of deployment?

I'm a Veteran myself and know what it's like to get sent overseas and have your life disrupted. My situation is this: since returning from Iraq I haven't been able to find a suitable job and decided to become a real estate investor. I just happened to think there must be a lot of people in the military who can't keep their homes once they get deployed and I'd like to help them while helping myself to make some money How can I find military people who have to sell their homes because of deployment? The best thing is advertise on base and at the local establishments in the area. ie barber shops, make a simple web site, had out cards, classifieds and I'm sure there plenty other ways. Oh also on the local radio stations is a good way to get the word out. Also put a profile on military.comHow can I find military people who have to sell their homes because of deployment?Oh, so you'd like to take advantage of the fact that these GI's have to go overseas and you believe that you'll be able to buy their home lower than the actual value. That's real nice of you. But it won't work.

There are laws in place that mortgage companies cannot foreclose on homes owned by active military personnel while on deployment.

Besides, how the heck do you expect to be able to buy these homes if you can't find a "suitable" job for yourself? Do you think the banks will just give you money since you are a veteran? No, they won't - you must have a verifiable way to pay back the mortgage.

I find that your business plan needs some work so you don't come off as sleazy. Good luck to you - I hope you lower your standards a bit and get a real job.

How close are the military collaboration and "brotherhood" between US soldiers and British soldiers nowadays?

Can we say that this is the closest military relationship in the world, between two countries? How close are the military collaboration and "brotherhood" between US soldiers and British soldiers nowadays?Yes. We have shared secrets with them since WWI. Except for churchill not warning us about the pearl harbor attack until after it happened so we would be dragged into the war... but, besides that, yes.How close are the military collaboration and "brotherhood" between US soldiers and British soldiers nowadays?I think the relationship is still very close, I'd trust U.S. forces with my life. Some of my greatest memories in the military are from when I worked with Americans, in fact, I'm planning to fly out to New York this year and meet up with a few U.S. Marine Reserves I served with in 2009 - some of the best friends I've ever met.How close are the military collaboration and "brotherhood" between US soldiers and British soldiers nowadays?there is no doubt that i would rather ride to battle alongside my American cousins than my continental friends or eastern neighbours... however, by grandfather always told be to stay behind them, it was better to have your back exposed. How close are the military collaboration and "brotherhood" between US soldiers and British soldiers nowadays?
I'll put it this way. I'd take a fellow American covering my back any day of the week.

What branch in the military should I join and why?

I know I want to join the military but I just do not know what branch.

Can you guys help me decide by telling information, personal opinions, what benefits or what they offer, pretty much why I should join whatever branch you think I should join. What branch in the military should I join and why?I need more information to give you a good answer. People join for different reasons. Airforce has the most comfort. Marines are the toughest. Army has the most opportunity. Navy has the best bases and most freedom. What are you looking for? What branch in the military should I join and why?bjj is absolutely right. How are we supposed to tell you what's best for you with no information about you? That's you setting us (and you) up for failure.

What's the best thing to say when passing a military service man or woman?

I do a lot of traveling for work, and at the airports I often pass military service men and women. I can't help but feel guilty for taking advantage of everyday things that these people are putting their lives on the line for, and I feel I should say something to show my appreciation and support. But I can't ever think of anything to say. Perhaps they would prefer to not be bothered at all. Any suggestions? What's the best thing to say when passing a military service man or woman?I think it is great that you are considerate enough to want to say something. You sound like a great guy ;)What's the best thing to say when passing a military service man or woman?
It sounds like you'd like to express your appreciation. When I've travelled in uniform, I've always been honored by people who came up to shake my hand, say thank you, or 'God bless you.' I've heard many stories of Vietnam vets who were spit on and called names. If nothing else comes of this war, at least Americans have learned to appreciate their service members. Step on up, say hello, thank you, or even 'may I buy you a cup of coffee to thank you for your service?' You'll never be turned down...unless they're late for a plane, of course!

If you want to remain anonymous, you could send a letter of thanks to your local USO center. Most airports have one. It will be displayed for all to read while they rest there. What's the best thing to say when passing a military service man or woman?I was returning home from ft jackson there for basic and it was an honor to get just a simple thankyou it means so much to us so please do not hesitate to say thanks....
The nicest thing is just to say thank you very much for your service to our country. You would be suprised how many have said very derogatory things to me, or thrown stuff at us. Just saying thank you, is quite enough..What's the best thing to say when passing a military service man or woman?Say thatnks and buy them a beer. If you have time just talk to them about where they are going and what the will be doing. What's the best thing to say when passing a military service man or woman?
    Thank you and God bless.
    "Scouts out"

'nuff said. What's the best thing to say when passing a military service man or woman?
Just smile, look them in the eye, and say, "Thank you for your service in the military." They ALWAYS say, "You're welcome."
Smile and nod. If you get the chance, tell them "Thank you for your service". They don't do what they do for a pat on the the back, but most service men and women I know are very patriotic and it makes them feel good to know that other Americans are patriotic and appreciative of what they do. Imagine where we would be without those brave people.
i usually nod ..make eye contact..and say thanks for serving...that about covers it...
Just say thanks! and if you have the opportunity to be eating where one or more soldiers are eating, call their waitress over and pay for their meal or at least a desert. That will let them know you appreciate what they are doing.
Thank you for serving our country. If its a Marine, say Ooorah, its if Army, say hooah.... I forgot the others.
    I would kindly suggest:

First tell them "Thank You For Serving;Welcome Home~!"

Shake their hands, prehaps offer a word of Prayer with Them.

    Love sissa~
    THANK YOU FOR MY FREEDOMS

    F-John flipflop Kerry
    Simple-"Thank you for your service."

If they are in a bar buy them a beer.
    Try a simple "Thank You " .
How about simply saying "Thank you for keeping us safe"? P.S.: You'll NEVER find a man or woman in uniform that would prefer not to be bothered at all -- hearing the citizens voice their appreciation for us really makes what we do that much more worthwhile.
Say "Thank you." It's all they want. Just to be acknowledged and thanked for giving themselves up as a sacrifice.

How do I find out if my husband is entitled to military benefits?

I am married 15 years now; he was in the military back in vietnam but only was in a short time How do I find out if he is entitled????

ThanksHow do I find out if my husband is entitled to military benefits? My first question to you and your husband is what is his health like? If he's a diabetic, ever had prostate cancer, lung cancer, or other types of cancer the can be qualified for Service-Connection for these issues because of exposure to Agent Orange. Years ago the VA conceded the fact that if a Veteran had Vietnam soil under their feet then they were exposed to Agent Orange and there are 11 presumptive medical conditions associated with it.

After that he's entitled to apply for VA Loan Guarantees, Head/Foot stone upon burial, and a lot more that I can't even put on here. I'm going to guess you're pretty savvy on the computer, so go to www.va.gov and you can find most any answer to any question you might have. If you don't then please contact your closest State Veterans Commission or VA facility and request to speak to a benefits counselor. How do I find out if my husband is entitled to military benefits?
Are you still married? If so find his DD-214 and take it to the Veterans rep in the county you live in they will let you know + take him.

    Vet-USAF

Call the Veterans Rep in your county they should be able to tell you if you should go in to talk. As far as the GI Bill it may have expired by now the bill has changed many times since then. How do I find out if my husband is entitled to military benefits? He's not, except possibly for VA hospital care and burial in a national cemetery. But if you are thinking of some kind of payment, he's not.How do I find out if my husband is entitled to military benefits?
You could contact your local VA and see what they have to say. Are you talking like medical and what not for benefits?? If that is the case then I believe he would have had to serve the full 20 yrs to have access to those now. But i could be wrong the VA would know for sure. How do I find out if my husband is entitled to military benefits?Contact the VA they will be the best source for info.... he could be eligible for money/medical care from the VA. It will depend on injuries and rating. How do I find out if my husband is entitled to military benefits?
the GI Bill expired ten years after he got out. as a veteran, he is entitled to nothing else except through the VA. and those will be limited.

How can the US Military defend against IED attacks in Iraq?

It seems the biggest problem over in Iraq is IEDs (improvised explosive devices) they are hidden everywhere and pose a real problem to US military forces. They are working on new vehicles that are more resistant against IED attacks, but what do you think would be a good defense against IEDs? PLEASE - no anti-war junk! 10 points! How can the US Military defend against IED attacks in Iraq?"what do you think would be a good defense against IEDs?"

Training is the best defence against IED/VBIED attacks. Training is being conducted on all levels of the military in order to reduce casualties. Whether it is what to look for or how to drive in a convoy. I hope this helps.

DillionHow can the US Military defend against IED attacks in Iraq?Well, they do have the new MRAP's which are fairly effective against the IED's. I live in the Southern US and I see a LOT of these things on the backs of tractor trailers heading to port and then to Iraq. I think these will make a difference. Unfortunately they do not protect against the Explosively Formed Penetrator (EFP's) that many in the intelligence community suspect are being manufactured and imported in to Iraq from Iran. When these EFP's explode they fire a slug of molten copper into the vehicle with disastrous consequences for the vehicle occupants. The MRAP's are not designed to defeat this type of weapon.

I would say that the best way to prevent IED's from being planted in the first place would be to make it EXTREMELY uncomfortable for those caught planting them. To prevent the EFP's from being imported then I would suggest that we make life for the Iranians and the Shiite Militias equally EXTREMELY uncomfortable. You can make whatever assumptions you care to over what I mean by "EXTREMELY uncomfortable".

What is the best Military Branch should I join after I graduate High School?

At first I had high consideration's for the Air Force, but it seemed that every recruiter from the other branches didn't exactly have a positive response to the Air Force itself. What would be the best branch of the Military and what are the benefits of it? By the way I plan on being a Reserved Cadet for now. What is the best Military Branch should I join after I graduate High School? To be honest...each branch has their strengths and weaknesses. The way to select the branch you want to join is to determine what you want to do.... not only during your time in but AFTER you get out. If you want to be uhhhh...an air traffic controller.... you want Air Force, Navy, or Marines. Learn to repair radars....any of them.

    From my prospective....

The Air Force has the best training and the newest equipment.... but not always the best bases.

The Army tends to have the best bases.... in the most locations...good training and great equipment for mainly ground support. Some aviation but small when compared to the rest.

The Navy bases will tend to put you in places close to the ocean. The bases tend to be older but not great. IMHO... the uniforms suck.

I really don't know anything about the Coast Guard. Someone else will have to expound on that.

The Marines have the oldest equipment because we got it when the Navy was finished with it. Our training is good but not great. The Marine bases are probably the pits of all the military but we made/make do. Lots of pride and tradition.

So think long and hard....and determine what you want to do in your life and then execute it.

Thank you for considering service to your country.

I was in ARMY ROTC and served 8 years in the Army and form what I saw I would recommend the Air Force; if they have your MOS (Military Occupation Specialty). In my case only the Army did.

It depends on your priorities, if you have family and what you are looking to do.

    - In the Navy you can be at sea for at least 6 months and that is hard of families, it also means that you will be working 18 hours on and 8 hours off. But, you get the chance to work with submarines or on an aircraft carrier.

    - In the Army you will be deployed on a lot field problems if you like camping out then you will love that.

    - In the Marines you can serve on a ship or in an Embassy and that means any country in the world except for Iran, we even have a Marine base in Cuba.

    - In the Air Force solders get to send their officers off to die and are rarely in danger. They get to stay at the base so the officers don't need to worry about discipline so much. In the other services they have to be able to order you to go to your death so discipline can be tighter.

    - In the Coast Guard you are kind of in the Navy, but you stay at home. I don't know much about them, they are the little thought of service, but the front line to intercepting drugs and incoming terrorists and smugglers.

If your field is computers then you can go into almost any service, but if you want to work with nuclear power than any service except the Navy would be a waste of time. MPs can go anywhere in any service. There are two types of MPs in the Army; those who guard the post and those that are nothing more than glorified Infantry, they would provide security in the field during war time. You don't get to pick which unit you will belong to.

In the Army the Engineers wanted to go to the field every month so it was impossible for lower rank people to attend college. In the Navy you will be at sea so only correspondence courses would be available, the same is true for the Marines. The Coast Guard are usually at home each night and don't go on long deployments as do those in the Air Force therefore it is easier to go to college.

I have heard that Air Force Barracks are better than the Army Barracks, but I don't know for sure. Usually enlisted personal are assigned to a single room with 2-4 roommates. Officers go to the Officer Quarters and married people live in married housing or off post.

In the Army and Marines you will be able to command troops and lead a small army of men in battle, if you are an officer. In the Navy only the Captain is in charge of the ship and you will have him in your lap constantly. A Marine officer stationed to an embassy would probably be the only officer there, it depends on the nation and the size of the embassy. In the Air Force only officers can be pilots so you get to fly a jet or a cargo plane of some sort. There are many other jobs and Navigators are just as needed as pilots. You need to have perfect vision to be a pilot.

In the Marines and Army you can have a narrow mustache, but in the Navy it is possible to grow sideburns and maybe a small beard. In the Marines you could be ordered to be clean shaven. I don't know the Air Force policy, but I think it matches the Army's. For men all the services want short hair, but the Marines want the shortest.

I need to know a whole lot more about you to give you good advice, but a good idea would be to check out the Army Times or a newspaper for that service. Check out the articles for a glimpse of daily life and to see the promotion stats. In the Army you need to collect a lot of points from a wide range of sources, but your score is tied to the point total for that MOS which is controlled by the Pentagon and if your MOS is full then the point scores will be high, if your MOS is in demand then your point score will drop.

In the Air Force you need to take and pass a promotion test, but I have no idea how the Marines, or Coast Guard do it. The Navy has a separate system, but to get a position you need to take and pass a test. For example to get your dolphins; that means you are a submariner you need to study and take a test on the job, while at sea. This takes up a good deal of your free time.

In the Army you can get a lot of weekends, and holidays, in the Air Force you will get almost all of them, in the Coast Guard someone will have to be on duty at sea all the time. In the Navy you won't get any weekends or holidays off while at sea, but you do get liberty for a few days in port. In the Marines you don't get any weekends or holidays unless you are assigned to a ship or base and your ship is in port. The military is not a 9-5 job. It can be, but rarely.

The most important decision is what job you want to have. The Army has just as many pilots as the Air Force, but they all fly cargo jets or maybe a scout plane. Only the Air Force and Navy fly fighters, and only the Air Force flies the big bombers. MPs (Military Police) are so generic that they are the same for each service, but only the Marines and the Army have Tanks and Infantry. A few Marines can be pilots, but very few. Helicopter pilots are not officers, but warrant officers which take a totally different plan. The Navy, Marines, and Army have helicopters, but only the Army Helicopters go into battle. The most common helicopter is the Black Hawk and that is used by all services, but it is very new to the Coast Guard. Every service has vehicles that must be maintained and a motor pool, but only Navy Sea Bees and Army Engineers use construction equipment.

Just because you have a degree in something doesn’t mean that you will work in that field. I know of a woman who got a degree in Nuclear Engineering, but she joined the Army and ended up in the Engineers commanding an Earth Mover’s platoon. You don’t need an aeronautical degree to fly, but it helps and if you want to be a test pilot it is a requirement. All the services are interested in intelligence, but the Army has entire bases devoted to it. The Air Force use Predators and Global Surveyors so most of their intelligence is photographic. The Navy needs intelligence on ships, subs and on the land because they have to provide it to the Marines. The Coast Guard and the Air Force are the only services that fly AWACS; radar control officers, but the Air Force needs air traffic controllers. The Navy uses a few of them, but the Army planes are probably going to land at Air Force bases. The Coast Guard will work with civilians.

Write me and tell me your major and what job you want to do in the service and I can give you a little more advice. Otherwise your questions are too general. What is the best Military Branch should I join after I graduate High School?
Navy. I know several people who went into the Navy and loved it. My brother is there now. Thank you for supporting our country and good luck with whatever branch you choose.

    one word NAVY
what are these guys talking about?

    united states marine corps.
Join the Navy. We'll be fighting desert wars for the foreseeable future, and nobody has a camel that can swim 6,000 miles. Think about it.
Coast Guard or Air Force, if you can get in to either of them. Followed by Navy.

Unless you want to be an infantry type. If that is what you want then Marines followed by Army.
    Air Force
The branch with the best benefits that will treat you the best would be the air force. I respect the other branches but if you just want to do a normal job and not be in the war or on a ship for 10 months out of the year , then the air force will be the best choice.

Also the Air Force has the most money out of all the branches which will give better housing, pay, health benefits, and better life for families. If its the benefits and pay that your looking for the most logical choice would definitely be the Air Force.
    Air force is the best

i rather u go to non of them but if you should choose

pick the Air Force after that Navy ARMY AND SO ON
What are your real interests? do what you think you'd enjoy doing - shop around. Let us know. You'd look good in Navy Blues!
Air Force. Other other branches hate the Air Force because the AF is the best. The AF gets to sleep in tents with AC in the desert while everyone else gets to dig a hole in the ground and sleep in that. Don't talk to recruiters. Talk to people who have been in, especially Marines and Army. They will all tell you they would have rather been in the Air Force.
    ARMY HOOAH
For a chick, Air Force or Navy.

And every recruiter will bad mouth the other services, they are in competition.

IF THEY ALL BAD MOUTHED THE AIR FORCE ITS BECAUSE ITS THE ONE YOU WOULD DO BEST IN. THEY WANT YOU IN THEIR SERVICE. PERIOD.

What branches of the military have no upfront commitment for officers?

I would like to fly planes or choppers in the military as an officer after i finish up my college degree(i attend college now). I know that in the marines, there is no commitment as an officer if they cant guarantee a pilot spot. Are there any other branches like this? Where i dont have to join if there is no open pilot spot? I would really like to fly choppers for the coast guard, but i know thats the hardest to get into. Any help would be great! What branches of the military have no upfront commitment for officers?"Where i dont have to join if there is no open pilot spot"

You don't HAVE to join anything... it's voluntary.

And you are going into the military... you're joining it... the military isn't joining you. You serve at the will of the military.

The "guarantee" is that you'll have an opportunity to get your foot in the door. There's no guarantee you'll successfully complete the training.

It takes a certain kind of individual to fly... anything. After I retired, I got my private license. Now I can drive a plane from point A to point B with reasonable safety and certainty. But I'll never be a pilot. I get too mired down in detail. My instructor was a PILOT. He knew what the plane was doing, he knew the traffic in the area, he knew where we were (location and altitude). He could carry on a conversation with some control tower, keep track of the instruments, adjust the trim, check the navigation radios, follow a chart, fix a five-course dinner, knit a quilt, and instruct me... all at the same time. And he could do it with ease. A lot of folks can't even keep up with the information inundating them from today's technology... I think it's called "information overload."

Point is that not everybody who wants to be a pilot can be. You want a guarantee. If I may quote Clint Eastwood, "If you want a guarantee, buy a toaster." And you don't want to have to commit to anything. Sounds to me like you get what you want or you want to be free to walk, and you don't give a darn about the military. Not only that, but you seem to want somebody else to do the research... and maybe make the decision for you. Does that sound like an officer you'd like to follow into battle? What branches of the military have no upfront commitment for officers? In the Coast Guard they fly helo's not choppers. Also, there are no guarantees in the CG. You can apply to OCS, if you get accepted you go through OCS. After that you can apply to flight school. There is no guarantee you will be accepted to that. If not, then you are an Ensign and do the work that non-flying officers do in the Coast Guard.

Also, less than 5% of the officers in the CG come from college graduates only. They are either academy grads or prior service enlisted that worked their way up the ranks. What branches of the military have no upfront commitment for officers? If you have a degree, you can apply to be a Navy pilot or flight officer ( who would then attend OCS before going to flight school) and don't have to accept anything but pilot. ( I believe this is true for the other branches as well, the AF is like this, and I think that the Marines will guarantee you a pilot contract but you would need to talk to a recruiter about specifics. The Army handles both OCS and flying differently than the other branches, so again, you would need to talk to a recruiter. )

Now, it's important to remember that in every one of these branches if you get rejected from the pilot pipeline somewhere along the way, after commissioning, for medical reasons, there is a high likelihood that you will be re-designated into a different field. But that is just going to be the nature of the beast when it comes to a job such as pilot that is so hinged on your medical well-being.

How far can a military radio transmit a signal without the help of a satellite?

Or do military radios not use satellite at all?How far can a military radio transmit a signal without the help of a satellite? It depends on the type of radio - the military uses a wide variety operating in different frequency ranges for different jobs.

A typical military HF radio can pretty much reach anywhere in the world. However, doing so takes a lot of hard work, calculating, skill, luck and patience. The typical whip antenna you see in movies won't hack it - an antenna capable of bouncing signals off the ionosphere and reaching and receiving across gargantuan distances will probably be a massive, oddly-shaped series of cables strung up across trees, buildings or clark masts. Said antenna needs to be "cut" to the length appropriate to the frequency used, pointed in a precise direction, given enough power and if weather permits it, you may be able to talk to Sweden (albeit usually distorted and crackly to some extent

VHF radios are the more widely used means, and have a much shorter range (around 8km with excellent weather, no trees or hills in the way and external power). Unlike HF, setting up their antennae is a snap (you can use a simple whip for most applications), it's easy to communicate while moving and transmissions usually have more clarity. How far can a military radio transmit a signal without the help of a satellite?
The military loves satellites. It allows them to communicate any distance. From to the guy on top of the next building to HQ on the other side of the world. However, if they couldn't use satellites for whatever reason, they'd fall back to the methods still used today as well as before communications satellites.

HF Communication. The frequencies below 30 MHz can be good for worldwide communications. The most efficient of these fall in the high frequency (HF) spectrum. Skywave propagation is used. These signals bounce off the ionosphere 250 mile above the Earth and come back down. These signals might bounce off the Earth back up to the ionosphere. This is called skip. Multiple skips will make it around the world. Different frequencies are better for this at different times of the day, year or even decade. This makes worldwide communication via HF an art and science.

Frequencies that are too high to bounce off the ionosphere rely on ground wave. These frequencies are more line of light plus some. Antenna height and type and power can send these signals 200 miles. This shortens as frequency increases until you get to satellite frequencies where you need literal line of sight with the satellite in order to work, look at satellite TV or your GPS receiver. You can extend the range of these very high frequency (VHF), ultra high frequency (UHF) and super high frequency (SHF) with repeaters.

You can use a combination of the above propagation and add Internet connectivity into the mix.How far can a military radio transmit a signal without the help of a satellite?Depends on the type of radio, what they are using to power it, whether it has amps, how big the antenna is, whether they have relay set up, the surrounding terrain, the time of day, the climate and weather. Higher levels of command and the Navy and Air Force are more likely to rely on satellites than, say, ground forces at the tactical level.

I think you should read up on radio propagation, it's pretty interesting stuff. You can pick up shortwave radio signals from thousands of miles away using a small handheld shortwave radio. How far can a military radio transmit a signal without the help of a satellite?
When I was in DC we would pick up skip from the Far East and sometimes Russia. RF (radio frequency) with the right conditions bounces off the ionosphere and back off the earth kind of like when you bounce a ball off the floor under a table. How far can a military radio transmit a signal without the help of a satellite?Several different types of radios/communications equipment used by various military branches for different nations. Each can and does transmit at different ranges. Be more specific if you want an honest answer next time. How far can a military radio transmit a signal without the help of a satellite?
there is a myriad of radios and things alike which the military uses
a radio wave , unobstructed will go on to infinity

How advanced is our military technology compared to other countries?

I was having a conversation with my step father about how I heard we have the most advanced military technology in the world. Then he went about saying how the Iraqis and Afgans have some explosive technology that even us Americans cannot comprehend. For instance, the phone call bomb detenotion and explosive marbles. Is it true that our scientist can't figure out how to develop these kinds of clever explosive devices? How advanced is our military technology compared to other countries? Not true at all. We do in certain ways have better technology but we are also on different levels than other countries. Along with that, a lot of our creations and technology are given to other countries by us. Fighter aircrafts are a good example. In terms of bombs and explosives, not true either. It may seem like in the news that they always have bombs and explosives that out smarting us, they just fight a way different war. Hand to hand, and in the air... They can't compete. So they hide and explode things from a distance, or use suicide bombers. But no, they are not beyond us.How advanced is our military technology compared to other countries?
Your scientist does not even think of tinkering with that remote device. The reason for this is that warfare is a direct confrontation, while remote explosive device is use by guerrillas and terrorist to counter the advance weapons the American does. Besides, these explosive is easy and cheap to produce. Of course, I do not know how to produce the explosives, but, according to certain group, this device is cheaper to produce and more effective. How advanced is our military technology compared to other countries? We used those devices in the '70s and '80s and decommissioned them in '90s. The United States is truly the most technologically-advanced country in the world. How advanced is our military technology compared to other countries?
No, I think what he means is it's unpredictable; we could make these in our garages at home but don't use them and they're hard to detect and prevent detonating. How advanced is our military technology compared to other countries? Before Obama I would have said super superiorer. Since Obama, just superior.

  • How to get the military to pay for my teeth?

I am in the military (have been for a couple years), and I want to get some cosmetic work done. I would like the army to pay for braces and I can do the rest. I am a medic so I KNOW there is a way to do this I am seeking someone who may have experiece though. I dont know whether to say me teeth hurt cause they're not straight or what. Any advice appreciated. Thanks guys. How to get the military to pay for my teeth?Next time you are CAT 4 tell the dentec that you are interested in braces. They will tell you all the requirements. I just had 2 on my Soldiers get them. One guy had horrible teeth, the other guy had pretty decent teeth, he just wanted them straightened a little.

It also depends on where you are stationed.

How can I get a copy of military health records fast?

I am trying to get back into the military, but I do not have my medical records for when I was discharged. I am trying to get them so that I can get a waiver on my previous discharge. That way I can get back in the military. How can I get a copy of military health records fast?First, there is no fast way. But, the good news is that there is a way; VA 1-800-827-1000. Ask for the appropriate forms to get your military medical records. It may still be Form 180, Request Pertaining to Military Records.

An easier and probably faster way is to go to the Veterans Administration Office and ask for the forms. Also ask to see a VA Representative who can explain the process to you.

If you have everything you need with you, they maybe willing to help you fill out the form and send it to right people. You need to have all you information available like discharge records, and any other records you may taken with you at discharge.

For example, you are going to need to write down your medical history as best and clear as you can while in the Military, dates, times, illness or problem, treatments and so on. Take this with you to the VA.

However, get help. If you are in the San Francisco Bay Area, call Swords to Plowshares at 415-252-4788. If you are elsewhere in the Country, find an advocate, like Swords that is National like Disabled American Veterans, www.dav.org, 1-877-426-2838.

Contact your old unit's HQ's and find out. It should be somewhere with your 201 file. Im sure they will be able to find it. And if you get back in, make like 3 copies of everything for your personal records. Thats what my hubby does.

How do British private military companies practice with firearms with the laws on them so strict?

There are around 9 private military contractor companies based in the UK. How do they get the practice using up to date weapons such as rifles and pistols if they are completely illegal under British law???

Remember they are privately owned not government owned!!!How do British private military companies practice with firearms with the laws on them so strict?Good question.

It would seem that if they had a way around the law, I would want to join one of their companies as I enjoy target shooting.

What would prevent them from having 2.7 million members in their organization and simply be a cover for a shooting club?

g-day!How do British private military companies practice with firearms with the laws on them so strict?
They probably are licensed to train on a UK Military or Police shooting ground, failing that they could go to any E.U. country that doesn't have such Draconian Gun Laws as the U.K.How do British private military companies practice with firearms with the laws on them so strict? They use Army firing ranges or indoor ranges the same as Gun clubs do.
They have to take them abroad to test them probablyHow do British private military companies practice with firearms with the laws on them so strict?there mostly made up from ex special forces, and they still practise on government land, plus most of them still work for the government covertly anyway. How do British private military companies practice with firearms with the laws on them so strict?
    Special licences no doubt.

The laws only prevent you and me (decent law abiding people) from having handguns and rifles. People who actually want to kill people can have them, thats why gangs have them.
Most of them are already well trained ex-soldiers - usually with experience in the special forces or military police.

In addition, firearms restrictions in the United Kingdom don't cover all firearms - shotguns are especially popular and one doesn't necessarily need a fully automatic, high caliber weapon to practice shot consistency.

Not to mention they could practice overseas in places where firearms laws are more lax.

Arguably the UK is an impractical place for PMC employees to practice firearms skills, but it can still be done to some extent if the employees in question aren't already extremely proficient or if they haven't practiced overseas too.How do British private military companies practice with firearms with the laws on them so strict?
some good guess work in the answers already given, however none of them are correct, while arms companies are privately owned they all operate under a government licence to produce weapons, when a weapon is produced that is of military interest they are sent to the defence research agency for evaluation to undergo a variety of tests.all weapons produced in the UK are tested in the UK prior to overseas sales for the simple reason that you have to know that your product works and the reason its UK tested on MOD ranges is that all firearm sales in the UK only happen under the guidance of the government(not to mention the money they make out of the sale),also, dont forget that the term illegal firearm does not apply to government agency's,hm forces, police, security services(mi5/mi6),
If they are licenced to manufacture weapons then they must have the right to test them and any weapons for military use are tested by the military themselves. The laws governing the individual's right to carry weapons and the arms manufacturers laws are not the same

What are you entitled to when a military man (marine corps) divorces you after more than 2 years of marriage?

The military partner cheats on his spouse and decides to divorce her. Spouse has been working but dependent on the military partner for health insurance. What are you entitled to when a military man (marine corps) divorces you after more than 2 years of marriage? Not much since he's likely facing charges for the affair and will get booted out or demoted.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\What are you entitled to when a military man (marine corps) divorces you after more than 2 years of marriage?
    Unfortunately, absolutely nothing.

You are entitled to half the married BAH until the divorce is final (he must give you this). You could attempt to request alimony if you've been a stay at home mom, but its up to the judge whether or not its granted (its usually based on how long you've been married also)

All your benefits (TriCare, base priviledges, etc) will be gone the moment the divorce is final.

And no, service members do NOT get discharged or demoted for having an affair. That is completely false. If that was the case, there would be very few people in the military !What are you entitled to when a military man (marine corps) divorces you after more than 2 years of marriage? He owes you nothing. Sorry. 2 years isn't anything. His insurance will cover you until the divorce is finalized. You don't deserve anything anyway, being married doesn't entitle you. I don't get why some people think they ought to get paid to leave.

If you can prove he cheated, he can get demoted for that, you would need concrete proof though. What are you entitled to when a military man (marine corps) divorces you after more than 2 years of marriage?
I was a Marine when my first wife divorced me, all she got was child support. You can tell the Marines your husband cheated, but it may not do anything, we protect our own. The order is God, Country, Corps, family comes last. What are you entitled to when a military man (marine corps) divorces you after more than 2 years of marriage? This is one of the main things wrong with American women today. They always think that they're entitled to something

HE is the one serving, not you. What would you give him if it was you leaving him? I'd bet nothing. What are you entitled to when a military man (marine corps) divorces you after more than 2 years of marriage?
spouse get zilch. However if they want to get even, they have the person prosecuted under UMCJ for adultery.

How long does the military postal service take?

Last Tuesday I mailed something from a civilian German address to an APO address in Germany. The package still has not arrived. I know yesterday the military would not have worked having been a holiday but that is 5 business days. Is that normal? How long does the military postal service take?If you mailed it from Germany to an APO address in Germany then it has to go to the APO (in New York most likely) get sorted and then be shipped back to Germany for delivery. How long does the military postal service take?
    How did you mail it?

All mail sent to an APO address goes to the relevant port of departure first and is then sent to the APO facility. If you mailed a package to an APO address through the German Post Office it would be sent to the US first and then relayed to the APO. If you sent it surface rate it could take 4 to 6 weeks to arrive in the US. If you sent it airmail it would arrive in the US in 1 or 2 days but would then take the usual 3 to 25 days to make it to the APO facility in Germany.

If sending something to an APO box from in theater (and not using the APO system) you must send it to the host nation address. For example only, if you were sending it to Box 1234, APO AE 09012 (Ramstein AB, Northside) you'd address it as follows:

    %26lt;Name%26gt;
    Postfach 1234
    Flugplatz Ramstein
    %26lt;local postcode%26gt;
    Rhein-Pfalz

On rare occasions the local postal authorities may catch mis-addressed mail destined in country but you should not depend upon that. If they do they normally send it to the arrival port (used to be Rhein Main but may now be Ramstein) where it's picked up by the APO system.

Your local APO can give you their civilian equivalent address and often provide them for other installations in country and in theater. How long does the military postal service take?it will be sent to NYC then forwarded on to the location of the command/unit. it will take a good ten days most likely.. possibly longer.

each OCONUS FPO address has an equivalent LOCAL civilian address. next time you want to send something, use that address instead and it bypasses the side trip to NYC.How long does the military postal service take?
It will take you roughly 2 weeks for someone from america to send to Iraq Army, that is my job I am here in Iraq for the Army and that is part of my job, it is called a ttissmm, time it takes (google it) mail does get backed up, from bombings, weather, also, mail is alot of times not the most important part of a delivery. Bye from Iraq. How long does the military postal service take? That is why they call it snail mail.....

  • How does obtaining your driver's liscense work in the military?

I'll be leaving for basic military training for the United States Air Force on March 16th, and I haven't obtained my driver's liscense yet. How would I go about doing this when I finally leave? How does obtaining your driver's liscense work in the military? You have to do it before or after basics training. There will be no time during. But other than that, it's the same as getting a license for any civilian. How does obtaining your driver's liscense work in the military?Well, there are civilian driver's licenses and military driver's licenses. If you need to drive Air Force vehicles, the Air Force will take care of that with their own training and certification.

But I think you are talking about a driver's license in the civilian world. You'll need to do that yourself. If you are still in the United States, you'll need to go to that State's DMV/OMV/MVD office for the forms and tests. Every State has it's own web site and you can search there for the requirements. They are all a little different but not by much.

It's possible to get this done before March 16th if you start now. You'll have no time in Basic but you can get it afterwards easily if still in the U.S. A lot of bureaucracy if you are overseas. How does obtaining your driver's liscense work in the military? After you get out of Basic and are living somewhere you can take the morning off to get your license, you go and do it. You should try and get your license before you go. You have time.

What is the strongest military group or organization?

What ist strongest military, not country, i mean groups like Navy Seals or Spetsnaz and what country has the strongest Air Force? What is the strongest military group or organization?Depends on the condition of the battle.

Dead of Siberian winter, the Green Berets might have a hard time.

But 120 degree Iraqi desert, Spetsnaz might have trouble.

    You can never really tell.

    Personally, SAS is the best.

USAF is the strongest Air Force, no competition. What is the strongest military group or organization?
Xe Services LLC. Top of the line retired US military special services, founded by an ex Navy seal and armed by the US and by whatever other equipment they have managed to steal, oops I mean acquire, or capture.

Strictly Air Force, US narrowly over former USSR and China. With Navy carrier based fighters and bombers together with Army gunships and antitank fighter planes, US, no competition. What is the strongest military group or organization?Per person, Israel. EVERY citizen, male and female, are conscripted into the miltary at 18 and serve three years each, then reserve for life, so the entire country basically is a military!! Wish we did that here. It would solve a lot of problems of having an all volunteer service!!!What is the strongest military group or organization?
The British SAS are regarded as the finest military unit in the world.Although a small unit of only a few hundred men, they are the most feared soldiers in the world.

The US has the most powerful airforce in the world. What is the strongest military group or organization? This is debatable, as there our many special op groups. Usually experts would say the British SAS or American Green Berets.

The United States has the strongest Air Force. What is the strongest military group or organization?
Taliban. They just chop off civilian people's heads in the name of their God. Nobody can stop them.
    United States Airforce PJ's

Why are the richer countries more powerful military wise?

Why are the richer countries more powerful military wise?

What are the advantages of having so much money military wise?

What would be the advantages of having less money, but more manpower? Why are the richer countries more powerful military wise?More money = better weapons, better technology, better training, healthy soldiers, and you are able to fund studys to better your military even more. Man power is nothing if your guys are armed with nothing but WWI and pre-WWI weapons and have little training while they are facing an army with present day weapons and modern tactics. Man power is nothing if your soldiers are unhealthy because they have little to eat and you don't have money to by them medicine and keep them healthy. Why are the richer countries more powerful military wise?
    Common sense is your friend.

More money means more to spend on military technology. More manpower would give you a larger work force, but without money you couldn't feed them. Why are the richer countries more powerful military wise? The fact that you have to actually ask this question makes me wonder how you can even figure out how to use a computer. Why are the richer countries more powerful military wise?
Because they have more money so spend on their military.

You are able to have the best equipment and weaponry that money can buy.

Nothing at all, manpower is now obsolete. A well placed air strike or artillery barrage could wipe out an entire infantry battalion in a second.

Modern warfare is now all about mobility and control over the skies. Why are the richer countries more powerful military wise?More manpower means more cannon fodder. Why are the richer countries more powerful military wise?
a name goes right here - AMEN
its how much you alot for military spending. countries like former iraq north korea iran are basically 3rd world countries but with stronger army than say netherlands belgium or spain. but those countries spend more for their military so they got bigger. take north vietnam during vietnam war, they were doing nothing economically but spent all time fighting the war. even now there are armed civilians in countries like somalia sierra leone etc compare that to rich unarmed civilians in europe or america. so its not only about being rich but about investing in weapons.

Why is there always a display of military might at large sporting events?

Whether it be the Superbowl or the World Series, there is always a display of United States Military Might at these large sporting events. You might see Jets flying around, or you might see a well-known military figure show up at these sporting events.

Why is this the case, and what does that say to you?Why is there always a display of military might at large sporting events? It wears me out. It has nothing to do with making us feel safe at the event. What the hell is a jet fighter going to do to keep us safe at a football game. Target a potential bad guy in the crowd with a 2000 pound bomb? That would kill us all.

I think it is smply because most people think it is "cool" and it adds to that pregame sense of patriotism that happens at every sporting event (national anthem etc.)

To be honest, I'd rather them save some money and use the jets for training exercises and national security issues rather than wasting gas to fly over a football stadium. Why is there always a display of military might at large sporting events?
To dissuade potential attackers and to make the attendees at the event feel safe. Why is there always a display of military might at large sporting events?have you ever seen a fly over in person It is the best thing ever!!!
The Military embraces and encourages Group Think, which is often manifested at such events and especially enjoyed by sport team membersWhy is there always a display of military might at large sporting events? It says "AMERICA..F*CK YEAH!"

Other than that I have no clue. Why is there always a display of military might at large sporting events?
We have always done that, since the First Roosevelt, with his giant Navy sailing every where.

We are just showing our military power,

we are exercising the fact that we can beat any country in open war.
A chance to practice large scale urban warfare? Why is there always a display of military might at large sporting events?
    nationalistic posturing!
I always like to see our military at these events. It's purely ceremonial, but a great many sports' fans respect the military. And there is no doubt that the positive PR makes for potential recruiting opportunities as well.
They restrict airspace above big events and the jets enforce the restriction.
Contrary to what seems to be a common assumption these days, nothing that we enjoy as "recreation" exists in a vacuum. Those pursuits which distract us the most from everyday realities are still brought to us by the efforts of others. You would not be in those stands if not for the team, the city and the country.

It is only fitting, therefore, that a moment of appreciation is given to each...From the pre-game ceremonies each team normally has to honor "local heros" to the military color guard presenting the Flag, these are simply reminders that the game you enjoy and that others play are still the product of someone else's labor...and the price that is sometimes attached.

Whatever made you want to ask such a disrespectful question to military wives, girlfriends and the heroes they love and support? Keep thinking the way you do and one of those husbands will come home from overseas and teach you a thing or two about being an easy target.Where do all the military wives and girlfriends hang out when their man is on deployment?I am not sure what you are referring to, but it sounds like you are interested in taking advantage of military wives while their husbands are away. And if you sign during the fall, October, does in make a difference when you will go to basic? How much time is there on average between signing for the military and leaving for basic? What dictates that is the job you pick and the time frame when a training cycle opens up for your slot. For instance, if you need to finish school or had some big life event you needed to be home for, then you could choose to leave for basic after you completed school, etc. As far as when you would leave if you didn't use the delayed entry, it depends on when a new cycle of basic starts. However, they start frequently, like every week. I signed with the Air Force, tested and shipped out within a week. It was in October. I spent Thanksgiving in basic and got home for christmas. How much time is there on average between signing for the military and leaving for basic? There are so many difference factors.. just go talk to the recruiters. How can I find out how many people in the world have ever earned a military history degree?

Is there any possible way to know how many people have ever earned a graduate degree in military history? Not only that, but a breakdown of how many females, males, whites, blacks, asians, etc. I am just curious as to how many minorities have studied military history at the graduate level. Would I need to contact academic departments for this information? Any suggestions? How can I find out how many people in the world have ever earned a military history degree?A Sisyphean task.

Miltary history at degree level is often called War Studies,Peace Studies,War and Peace Studies, or other nomenclatures rather than History - I've worked in academia for well over 20 years, and specialize in military history, but work for the History Department, and graduated with a History degree, although much of what I studied and wrote about as both an undergraduate and postgrad student was on military history.

Short of everyone who's ever studied history, social sciences, and all of the above classifications I've mentioned handing over their transscripts to you (inherenetly most unlikely),I don't see how you'd be able to collect sufficient data to arrive at even a ballpark figure.

I can tell you that many students that you describe as minorities have studied military history in my classes, most of them graduating and many going on to postgrad study in similar fields.

How competitive is it to be accepted into one of the military service academy's summer programs?

I am a sophomore now, but I have my heart set on going into the military. I've tried to gather as much information as I can on the summer programs, but unfortunately I'm not finding anything. I understand that the summer program application process is based on academics, but I was wondering if I have to be in the top 5th percent of my class or anything. I'm most interested in the Summer Leaders Seminar at West Point, but I would love any information on what the other academies are doing. Thanks. How competitive is it to be accepted into one of the military service academy's summer programs?Usma SLS only has 1,000 places and the most applications. Usafa has 1125 places. Usna has 2250 places. I think you can figure out which is the most competitive. Over 50% of those who attend Usma and Usafa Summer Seminar are offered appointments. The application is not only based on academics, and there is not a top 5% requirement. The academies are looking for well rounded individuals. Listen to what Colonel Batchelder states regarding selection at West Point SLS on the video: Top 10-15% Class Rank, upper 600 Sat Scores or upper 20/lower 30 ACT scores, several extracurricular activities, several athletic letters.

Good Luck! How competitive is it to be accepted into one of the military service academy's summer programs? It is very very difficult to be accepted into one of them. How competitive is it to be accepted into one of the military service academy's summer programs? The programs are competitive but you do not have to be in the top 5th percentile of your class. At least half of the applicants to the summer programs will receive appointments to a Service Academy so the average statistics of those accepted into the summer program will be similar to those accepted into the Academy itself. USAFA has a program called the Summer Scientific Seminar for which it suggests a minimum PSAT score of 52 in verbal and math (SAT 520 in each) or an ACT score of 23 in each area. I've also put the Navy's Summer Seminar webpage in the sources. It is not unusual for someone to go to several of the summer programs in the same summer to get a feel for each Academy.
