I have completed a four year degree, and most jobs have offered $30-$50 an hour depending on the company. I want a civilan life again, but I worry about retirement plans and job security. Although I would still have to work to compensate for retiring from the military, at least I know there will be some sort of check coming in each month. If you are unhappy with what you do, should you risk seeking another career? By the way, I will have 8 years in when I am able to leave the military.Should I get out of the military and get a civilian job?If you are an officer (requirement being a four year degree), stay in the military until you can retire will full benefits. Also, keep on learning and take advantage of those military education programs. This will prepare you for a good job when you get out. On the other hand, if the companies that have offered you jobs are also offering you good benefit packages with retirement programs, health, and more, it might be a good move to become a civvie, especially if you aren't liking the military lifestyle. In the end, do what makes you happy!Should I get out of the military and get a civilian job?Depend on your age if you should leave the military to not
The pay, benefits, retirement are fantastic- depending on how far you advance in the ranksShould I get out of the military and get a civilian job?My husband is facing this choice right now too. My advice to you would be to go on a few interviews with companies to see what kinds of job offers you're able to get. Be sure to factor in the benefits offered (health care, pension plans, 401K matching, tuition reimbursement etc). I think that if you're unhappy with what you're currently doing, you should definitely explore other opportunities. Just make sure that you have a job secured before you leave the military. Other options would be to look into a branch transfer or transitioning into a GS job. These options may allow you to keep your government benefits.
