What are the military regulations regarding the use of aftermarket gear?

What are, or rather where can I find the details, regarding military regulations on the use of custom/aftermarket gear? I know some special operations forces are allowed much more leeway when it comes to their kit, however I have heard that garden variety grunts do not get the same allowances.

I understand a recent statement came out regarding the use of aftermarket protective gear, such as Dragonhide, was not allowed. Then again, it also states that said gear would be allowed if and only if it could be used without interfering with the regular issued gear.

Any pointers? Thanks! What are the military regulations regarding the use of aftermarket gear? That has gone back and forth. Only certain things are issued but many other styles or brands have made the "approved" list. Example the Army issues mostly WileyX eye protection and Bellview boots,BUT Oakley has a site that gives huge discounts to soldiers on their eye pro. and tactical boots both of which are on the approved wear lists. Best bet is to go through your C.O.C. some units its only what you are issued. As for DragonSkin IBA alot of the original hype was just that. There is no cutaway option so it most likely would drag you to the bottom in marine ops or could keep you traped in vehicle ops. Not that long ago someone was selling a vest on E bay for $1 because it almost got him killed. What are the military regulations regarding the use of aftermarket gear?Well in Britain if you wear non-issued body armour your life insurance and family compensation will be lost if you are killed due to you not wearing the recommended armour..What are the military regulations regarding the use of aftermarket gear? This is all "service specific". You must refer to the individual service i.e. Army, Navy, Air Force or Marine regulation concerning the wear of items that were not issued.

Regulations are constantly being updated to take into consideration new items that may be used in the combat environment. So, refer to the latest update. What are the military regulations regarding the use of aftermarket gear?
