Let's say for argument sake that one active member of the Navy meets an active member of the army (or Air Force meeting a Marine or any combination).
Do they still salute each other even though they are in different branches? Is one automatically a superior officer depending on the branch. If one is a higher ranking officer, can they give orders to the one that is not in their branch of the military? What happens when two members of different branches of the military meet? Its the same as if you met an officer or an enlisted person in your branch.
You still salute
They still get paid the same
The ranks mean the same
An o3 of the AF isn't superior to an o3 of the Army
etc
ALL THE SAME
Now if you really wanna get technical then an E1 of the NAVY doesnt have to take orders from an o6 of the Coast Guard. The E1's Naval Captain overrides the orders of the Coast Guard's captain.
Stuff like that never happens though, but it happened to me once. This o6 from the CG was on our Naval base and I was the duty driver that day. He literally wanted me to move our Naval duty van from the CO spot so he could park there.
I told him "no', its reserved for my captain and our duty vehicles, find somewhere else to park". Of course he got angry but he Couldn't do anything since he wasn't on his base or part of the NAVY. His rank didnt really mean anything at that point in time.
I still saluted him though but I refused to take orders from him
Oh and we also salute our allies, while underway if we ever pass a Canadian or British ship we have to 'man the rails' and render honors to the officers on board that ship. They do the same for us as well.
You must also remember that two silver bars in that Army is different from two silver bars in the NAVY. One is a captain and the other is a lieutenant. But they have the same rank though, they are just addressed differentlyWhat happens when two members of different branches of the military meet?If you know its an officer and your in uniform yes you salute.
When in doubt........... Salute !What happens when two members of different branches of the military meet?YES! The lower rank will have to salute and obey the higher rank's orders!
