New Jersey's Office of Support Enforcement (or their equivalent) will inform DFAS (Defense Finance %26amp; Accounting Service) of the support amount. You can also do this yourself and set it up as a allotment. If you do it yourself it never looks like you had to have it garnished. DFAS will deduct the amount prior to disbursing your paycheck. All deductions are taken from your check on the 1st and then the remaining amount is divided as close to exact half as possible. So, from your point of view, the amount will be as if you paid half on the 1st and half on the 15th. From New Jersey's point of view it will be paid in full on the 1st.How is state ordered CHILD SUPPORT Paid out from a military member?NJ does not just do weekly c/s orders. It depends on what the court orders, it could be monthly, bi-weekly, twice a month (which is what you should be on), and weekly. Even if the order says weekly, generally, if someone is paid differently and there is an Income Deduction Order (IDO) in place, that will take care of it automatically and you will get your money twice a month.

C/S begins whenever the court says it does, it decides on a "commencement date." If he fails to pay right away, he will fall into arrears. If his IDO doesn't pick up, he still has the responsibility to pay at the commencement date by sending a check or money order through the State Disbursement Unit. Sometimes it can take a while for the order to get signed by everyone it needs to get signed by, so it can take a few weeks. How is state ordered CHILD SUPPORT Paid out from a military member?

Per the FAQ's on the DFAS website: Your allotment is evenly divided between your semimonthly paychecks. For example, if you have an allotment of $100 it will reduce your take-home pay on the 1st and 15th by $50.

Even though both your mid-month and end of month pay are reduced by half the allotted amount, the actual allotment is only disbursed once a month on the 1st. For example, the money that is collected from your pay on the 15th will not be disbursed on the 15th, but only after the full amount has been collected. How is state ordered CHILD SUPPORT Paid out from a military member? If the court ordered child support to be paid weekly and he gets paid twice a month then the weeks will be added up and divided out evenly to make sure pay is current.

Example-

$100 ordered weekly

52 weeks a year

$5200 a year

5200 divided by 24

You will get an average of $216.66 twice a month.
