What do you people think of joining the military after college?

I've always wanted to join the military and I know that I may not come back, that's why I want to do it after college. I think it would be good to travel, meet people, and fight for my country.

Do many people join after college? What do you people think of joining the military after college?look man screw wa eveyrone is sayin--- i personally (as a soldier myself) want to shake ur hand man cuz there are too many ppl who just sign the dotted line for the college benifits (greedy). and forget what it all really is about--- fightin for our country, with pride.

i joined straight after high school and ill admit at 1st i was one for the college- but now after all i have expirienced in my training and in my deployment- i see what it really is about.

and that remark said about not wanting to be an officer thats is just great!--- next time just say--" i want to work for a living" lol thats wa we say---i dont know about ppl who joined after college but u will have my respect.

i hope u make a decision of ur own and if u join, u will make a greta soldier. go after ur dream. What do you people think of joining the military after college?
Well if you go enlisted you may run into some issues with the people around you. Some will look up to you having a degree and show you some respect, some will think you're crazy for joining when you could have either came in as an officer or got a decent job in the civilian world and some will probably resent you because they don't have a degree themselves.

I'm not saying everyone who goes to college suddenly becomes an enlightened brilliant person but someone with a college education coming in is likely to have quite a different view of the world than a high school graduate. You'll be dealing with kids fresh out of high school who understandably have very little life experience and are still relatively immature.

Most of them haven't learned to express their own view points

and just spew whatever their parents or kids they grew up around. In college your world view tends to expand a bit and you learn to express your opinions a bit more freely which might clash with your everyday Fox News watching red-neck yokel's viewpoints.

I went in with a degree and I'm going to say that the dream of traveling and meeting new people was kind of destroyed by a bunch of closed minded military idiots who think anyone different than them should be bombed. I tended to gravitate more people who were like myself, which meant I was made friends with other college types more mature and informed people.

You'll find that a lot of people do join after college though, so you shouldn't feel like a total outcast if you do decide to join. What do you people think of joining the military after college? If your joining the military for benefits your on crack. You make more money working for counties or states then you do in the military and your benefits are usually better because you have access to civilian doctors which are way better then most military doctors. The military is not about money or benefits. You must believe in what your doing. Joining and thinking your going to fight is a misconception. Most people do not "fight" in the military and there long periods of boredom in combat arms. If your joining to "fight" you may want to rethink your life because you have issues. You should be thinking about the future, wife, kids, how are you going to buy and own your own house, you know your future? The military is not a video game it is a lot of responsibility, and a lot of work. I suggest you think twice about it.
You can join as an officer in the Army if you have a bachelor's degree. Being in the military is a wonderful experience. More power to you if you want to join!

But don't look at it like you may not come back if you deploy. That's not the attitude to have. You want to have a positive one.... especially for your family and friends. They don't want to hear that.

Good luck to you!

EDIT: If you want to go enlisted, then why not enlist and go to school while you serve? It is possible... and free. What do you people think of joining the military after college? You mean joining as an officer or enlisted? I've known both and quite frankly, unless they attended West Point, The Citadel, or VMI, they really have a hard time adapting.

Nothing personal, but it seems they have an entirely unrealistic view of the world and their ability to adapt is severely crippled. Especially those that attend California universities. Strangest thing, but they are all screwed up.

Best of luck to you. Buck the trend. What do you people think of joining the military after college?
Steven...did you know that if you drink three big bottles of ketchup, you won't be able to join the military and kill people because your blood pressure would be too high?

...and don't stick yellow food dye in your eyes, because they might think that you have hepatitis.

Most well-educated people like to go around killing people, don't they?
I think its a great job + you get benifets like medical and dental, + 2 weeks holidays a year. You'll experience new cultures and meet lots of people!

I'm not going to promote for the army but best you contact them and ask for some details as where your going to and stuff liek that. Otherwise ask a person you know who is a soldier what is it likeWhat do you people think of joining the military after college?
Asked a recruiter the same question and he give me this answer basically:

Many people say they will do after they graduate college and the ones who graduate college never really join unless they can't pay off student loans. This just happened recently too.
Joining the military with a bachelor's degree under your belt will allow you to become an officer. They are the upper management of the military and have better pay and perks, but more responsibility of course.
Yes, its great that you want to do your part in defending this great nation, USA!
Yup I'm joining after college! USMC baby! I know I'm coming back though since I'm too cool to get killed!

See you on the battlefied brother!
