What are the benefits and disadvantages of joining the military before going to college?

My friend was telling me about his plan of joining the military after high school, and he said there were a lot of benefits? Like what? And Happy Almost Veterans' Day!What are the benefits and disadvantages of joining the military before going to college?FIRST: you get the GI Bill regardless of whether you attended college before or after you serve. An example: My husband went to college, applied for a commission to the Navy, was accepted, and is eligible to receive the GI Bill. Now, ALL BRANCHES of the military provides its members with TA (tuition assistance= 4500 college/year) which is different from the GI Bill. TA is help paying for college while you serve. Since he is taking advantage of TA he has the choice of using his GI Bill after he serves or signing his GI Bill benefits over to one of his children or spouse.



There are a lot of benefits to joining right after highschool:

1. You can attend college while you get paid to serve (see my little description of TA above)

2. It gives you an opportunity to grow up.

3. If you're smart, you'll save a nice nest egg.

4. After you serve if you've earned a degree, you can go to grad school with you GI Bill

5. If you earn a degree you can also apply for a commission and become an officer



There are a lot of benefits to ROTC though, too:

1. Education is PAID

2. You go in as an officer in lieu of enlisted (i.e. you have more responsibility and are paid almost double of what an enlisted makes).

Well, there's the G.I. Bill that pays for your college if you join the military. Also, you get great experience and you get to see the world. The health care is amazing and the housing is fantastic. It gives you a sort of descipline that makes you never fail but all success.

It gives you to keep your own targets and reach them.. That is a must quality in education.

1. The Montgomery GI bill give active servicemen up to $35000 in college money.
