What would happen if we got rid of the military?

As an American, I believe we are a Super Power because of a strong military that has allowed us to force our will on others. I do not believe that if we simply leave other countries alone that they will leave us alone (as some others have implied). I believe they would jump at the opportunity to retaliate for years of American rule. I understand that my freedom is not free and that in other countries, I would not live to see the sight of day were I to speak out agains the country's rulers. I support our President and the troops who defend our way of life. What do those who speak so harshly against our government believe would happen if those freedoms were taken away? What would happen if we got rid of the military? That, my friend, is the problem with those people that think that way. They do not think about the fact that they enjoy the freedom to speak out against their government because millions of men and women have died defending that right. Anyone who ever says taht we should just dump the military all together is woefully ignorant of the truth. not only does the military fight to rpeserve our rights, and show the world what it feels like to have those rights, but it also provides millions of jobs in not only the US, but around the world. Having a massive military helps our defense and our economy in a big way. If we got rid of the military all together in just an instant (historically speaking) the US would fall into absolute turmoil economically and would likely sink bacck deeply into the depression that plagues us still today. Gettign rid of the military woudl make us defenseless to attack by our enemies, powerless to defend our friends, and knock out from under us a major economic leg that we stand on. All in all, it would just be plain stupid to get ris of the military. What would happen if we got rid of the military?
u is a smart chicyWhat would happen if we got rid of the military? To be honest, without the military in this country, we wouldn't be all that powered up, because of the fact that they are our defense. And without defense,we will crumble.Sure we can fight for ourselves but not stragetically without the military depending on certain situations, which would lead to outright chaos.
nukes for hire and terrorists playgroundWhat would happen if we got rid of the military?if we got rid of the military we would all be deadWhat would happen if we got rid of the military?
we would all be dead cause the military is what keeps the stupied arabs out of here and sucide bombing us
Although 3/4 of the nation speaks bad about our president the war and other things, I as am American, still support our president and our country and never ever speak anything bad about it.

I know we are not perfect and make mistakes, but that does not encourage me from bad mouthing America!

May God bless it and always watch over us! God only knows there are so many out there who would like to see us as a 3rd world nation!

We must defend our country, our liberties and freedom, always! What would happen if we got rid of the military?
The military now is an extension of the massive bureaucracy we call a government. there are people in this country who are capable of fighting and/or leading a well-organised militia. As such, the country would not fall from the outside if the military were removed but undergo a revolution, and a new government would be set up that would either be statist or libertarian, depending on the political views of the leaders of that militia.
There is no retaliation involved. In human history, the US is the country that has done the absolute least to give others reason to be angry with us and has done the most to help people out, even when it isn't in our own best interest.

The truth is that the world is filled with evil aggressors. Being strong militrarily is an absolute must to keep these others in check. We rule over nobody. Our military keeps the wicked from murdering our people....and not much else.

BTW, we are unique in the history of the world for this.
I don't understand which of your and mines' ' freedoms ' the troops are fighting for in Iraq. NOBODY OUTSIDE OF THE US GOVERNMENT HAS INFRINGED ON ANY OF MY PERSONAL RIGHTS OR FREEDOM.

It is right and justified for the USA to defend our rights and values on American soil, but for us to use our military to spread our ideology throughout the world is wrong.

Might does not make Right.
The revelations about the massacre in Haditha came as U.S. troops were being accused last week of killing 11 civilians, including five children and a 75-year-old women, in the town of Ishaqi, north of Baghdad. Witnesses say the civilians had been gathered together in the corner of one room, and were shot at close range. A report by Iraqi police supports that contention.

Specialist Jody Casey, a former scout sniper in Baquba, said he had also seen civilians being killed. “At that time, when you first got down there, you could basically kill anyone you wanted,” Casey said. Bombs “go off and you just zap any farmer that’s close to you,” he said, adding that he was advised to carry a shovel--in order to plant it on dead civilians to make it look as though they were digging roadside bombs.

These are the war criminals that should be on trial for the death and destruction in Iraq.

You can wave your peice of **** flag if you dare but the fact is they are killing us because we have been killing them for years. - Mr. Lif
