What are the pros and cons of joining the military after college vs right out of highschool?

I am in college now and I am seriously thinking about joining the military. I haven't even considered what branch yet. My major is nursing, if that helps. So could anyone give me some suggestions or websites to look at. Thanks in advance! What are the pros and cons of joining the military after college vs right out of highschool? My hubby is in the Navy. He is a Hospital Corpsman. He quit college (nursing) to enlist and has really regretted it. Nursing is so hard to complete while you are working a full-time job, especially in the military since its hard to get the lab requirements done. I would suggest you finish school, then join as an officer. Your base pay will be higher, and you'll be able to actually do Nursing, as opposed to field medicine and just general sick call.

There are programs for enlisted members to go back to school. Google STA-21, and you can see those that my husband has considered. They may vary by branch, but I'm sure each branch has something similar to the Navy's STA-21.

I would suggest you check out www.military.com. There is lots of info on that site, as well as discussion boards where you can talk to others in the service. Perhaps that will help you decide when/if to join and what branches to consider.

Good luck. What are the pros and cons of joining the military after college vs right out of highschool?
your psyche..haven't you heard about post traumatic stress disorder and the lack of help the troops get?? nursing is a hard job..how do you feel about the war? if you disagree in any way think longer and harder.. when you have to hold pressure on an artery to save a soldier who tells you "tell my family i love them just in case". you have to be able to deal. you have to have a STRONG sense of being. so before you decide...determine how you feel about the war...what your beliefs are and take it from there...ONLY YOU can decide. What are the pros and cons of joining the military after college vs right out of highschool? You might want to consider ROTC...AFROTC offers a special scholarship for nurses and I'm sure the other branches do too...If you take a scholarship, you incur a commitment.

If you join after you graduate, you will need to talk to a nursing recruiter....the nursing recruiter in my area normally exhausts his quota of college graduates by April each year . . . its worth talking to a couple of nursing recruiters to see what they can offer you...be sure to let them know that you are shopping around..otherwise, they will hound you to death.
joining right out of high school is a mistake. wait until you gain more life experience. what if you discover what you truly want to do with your life in college? if you rob yourself of that opportunity youre going to spend 4 years being a slave. combat nurses/medic have it HARD. lots of time being deployed, lots of time in the field, hard PT. be sure youre up for itWhat are the pros and cons of joining the military after college vs right out of highschool? The Army is great for Nursing If your still in college you could join Army ROTC and get a scholarship for the rest of your studies. You can join in your Junior year. I would have to recommend Marine OCS though since thats what I'm doing this summer.

You'll get to travel more in the Marines/Navy than you would in the Army. They go to places such as Australia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

I can't think of any disadvantages to joining after college. It looks great on job applications (especially if you're an officer). What are the pros and cons of joining the military after college vs right out of highschool?
My suggestion would be to speak with a recruiter or military adviser on campus. The advantages of college over h.s. vary by branch, but you could attend Officer Canidate School and enter as an officer instead of a soldier, a difference in pay of nearly $1000.
If you wait until you complete your degree you can go in as an officer, if you enter prior to that you will have to go in as enlisted and work your way up the ranks. I can only speak for the Navy as that's where I've spent my last 19 years. What are the pros and cons of joining the military after college vs right out of highschool?
you should finish your college degree annd then go in the army as a (68w) health care specialist you can become from there either a combat medic or a medic that works in an aid station if you are a combat medic you will probaly get deployed if that what you want if you just want to work at the aid station you will probaly get deployed but not into combat
