Is it appropriate to call Military personnel by rank if you;re not in the military?

My boyfriend is graduating from MCRD San Diego, and becoming a United State Marine.

When I go down to the Depot, I would like to address the Marines by rank, but am unsure if it is appropriate because I am not in the military.

Would my gesture be seen as respectful, or disrespectful? Is it appropriate to call Military personnel by rank if you;re not in the military? It is appropriate. We are impressed that you know our ranks. Its like calling a doctor "Doctor". Not innapropriate. and we DO appreciate Sir or Ma'am if you dont know the rank, after all we call you ma'am.Is it appropriate to call Military personnel by rank if you;re not in the military?
it is respectful plus they are already used to being called by there ranks. Is it appropriate to call Military personnel by rank if you;re not in the military? It really depends. I am a military contractor and it depends on who I am dealing with and how well I know them. For people I do not know well, Rank and last name works well.Is it appropriate to call Military personnel by rank if you;re not in the military?
It doesn't matter either way. Most military people don't expect civilians to know ranks. But it's nice if they do.Is it appropriate to call Military personnel by rank if you;re not in the military? It is appropriate to call them by rank- but be sure you are calling them by the correct rank. It is Gunnery Sargent- not Gunny and not Sarge. They would much rather be called Sir, than by the wrong rank. They have worked very hard to earn their rank- just as your boyfriend has.Is it appropriate to call Military personnel by rank if you;re not in the military?
I call them as my other does. If it is peer, then usually just last name. It is is someone that out-ranks, it is usually rank and last name or just ma'am or sir. (just make sure you have the right rank)
